Leadership Transition: What’s On Your Mind?

Posted By: Molly O'Connell Leadership Transition,

The nonprofit sector has been facing significant turnover in its executive leadership, exacerbated and complicated by the “Great Resignation” during the COVID pandemic. These transitions, while daunting, can provide tremendous opportunity for reflection, change, and organizational growth when well-planned and considered.

To support organizations, particularly those with limited resources, to manage executive transition, MANP developed our Mission-Driven Executive Transitions Toolkit. This guide is based on learnings gleaned from moving through our own executive leadership transition in 2015, as well as the wisdom and experiences shared by members and state association peers.

Like our peers and members, MANP has been in a time of reflection, learning, and adaptation over the years since this resource was first published. We are very excited to share that we are launching a project to update our toolkit to reflect evolving guidance and insights related to navigating executive transition, particularly advice on how organizations can integrate their equity values and commitments to the process at all stages.

We are partnering with Evolution Management Consultants, a BIPOC-owned consulting firm, on this process. At EMC, engaging stakeholders is core to all of their processes to ensure they remain responsive to the communities served by their work. So, in addition to sharing their expertise and wisdom around equity, EMC wants to hear from YOU! We are issuing an open invitation to share:

What is top of mind for you/your organization about integrating your equity commitments into leadership transitions?
