Organization Overview

The mission of the Forest Society of Maine is to protect and conserve Maine's forestlands, including important natural areas such as lakes, rivers, and mountains. Working cooperatively with owners of managed forestlands, FSM seeks to sustain the economic, ecological, cultural, and recreational values of the Maine woods.
To conserve land and achieve its mission, FSM utilizes conservation easements with willing forestland owners that encompass the full array of interests and values in Maine’s North Woods. FSM has demonstrated the viability of its conservation approach by having helped conserve a million acres throughout Maine—making it the tenth largest land trust in the nation as measured by acres conserved within one state and yet one of the smallest in size with a staff of 12.
