How to Access the NEW Blanket Sales Tax Exemption for Nonprofits
Zoom
Event Details
It's here! As of January 1, 2025, all charitable nonprofits in Maine are now eligible for sales tax exemption. This means approximately 5,000 organizations across Maine (like yours!) could save a collective $10 million per year.
Please note: your IRS determination letter is NOT the same thing as sales tax exemption! For most charitable nonprofits in Maine, this will be a NEW exemption.
After decades of a confusing and unfair sales tax exemption system for 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Maine Association of Nonprofits helped to champion passage of a blanket sales tax exemption for charitable nonprofits across the state.
Join us on Wednesday, January 22nd at 9am to hear from representatives from Maine Revenue Services.
You'll learn:
- How the exemption works
- What steps you’ll need to take to gain the exemption certificate from Maine Revenue Services
- Which purchases qualify for sales tax exemption
Note: we held a webinar on this topic in November 2024, but the State asked us not to record it. We want to make sure folks have the answers they need, so we are hosting a second webinar. You can view a PDF of the presentation slides, and Q+As from that webinar on our blog.
