Maine Seacoast Mission
The Maine Sea Coast Mission has been providing hope to generations of island and coastal Maine families since its founding in 1905. Its programs fall within three broad categories – Island Outreach, Youth Development, and Meeting Immediate Needs.
Islanders receive health care from a nurse on the Sunbeam V and health care professionals through telemedicine. A minister provides non-denominational services on islands, counseling services, and community building activities. The Mission also partners with island churches to support their year round ministry.
The Mission provides over 100 college scholarships each year. It also operates an after-school and summer program, EdGE, for children in grades four through twelve in 17 communities in Downeast Maine.
Immediate needs are met in a variety of ways. Hunger is met through two food pantries. Emergency financial assistance, clothing vouchers, housing repairs, and a senior companion program meet other critical needs. Over 15,000 presents are provided every year to children and elderly who would otherwise have little at Christmas.
