Habitat for Humanity / 7 Rivers Maine (HFH/7RM) is a nonprofit housing organization working in partnership to provide safe, decent, affordable housing in our communities.  HFH/7RM is the locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International serving families living in substandard housing and earning between 25% and 60% of the average median income in Sagadahoc and Lincoln Counties and the towns of Brunswick and Harpswell.

Habitat affiliates are well known for building new homes in partnership with low-income families and the communities in which they live.  Recently, our affiliate has expanded to home repairs, weatherization and training.  In 2006, the ReStore opened to the public selling donated new and lightly used building materials, appliances, furniture, plumbing and electrical supplies, and much more at deeply discounted prices.  All profits go directly to Habitat’s building programs and thousands of pounds of materials are kept out of local landfills.  Eventually, we hope that the ReStore proceeds will cover all the administrative costs of the affiliate and every dollar donated will go directly to our building programs.

By continuing to coordinate donated resources and volunteer labor to keep costs low and providing a 0% interest mortgage to the owners at no profit to us, we are able to reach many more low-income families currently living in substandard housing.  In this way, we plan to move from helping two families become homeowners every year to helping over 200 families improve their housing and lower their costs.
